Tennessee congressman, others introduce Articles of Impeachment against President Trump

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) - Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., introduced Articles of Impeachment against President Donald Trump on Wednesday.

Cohen was joined by other members of Congress at the news conference.

According to a summary from the Articles of Impeachment, several congressmen are claiming President Trump has tried to conceal information in the FBI's investigation into Russia's interference with the 2016 presidential election.

"Donald J. Trump, in violation of his constitutional oath and obligations, has engaged personally, and through his subordinates and agents, in a course of conduct designed to delay and impede an investigation and to conceal information sought by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the course of its investigation into Russian interference with the 2016 United States presidential election, including any possible collusion between Russia and Donald J. Trump."

Cohen is the ranking member of the House Judiciary subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice.

President Trump's expression of calling multiple media outlets "fake news" and referring to a U.S. District Court Judge as a "so-called judge" were also noted in the articles as undermining the freedom of press and undermining the independence of the Federal Judiciary and the rule of law, respectively.

The articles also allege a violation of the U.S. Constitution, citing President Trump's refusal to release his full tax returns. The same section also cites payment received from foreign states after the Embassy of Kuwait held a $40,000 to $60,000 event at Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C., $270,000 in payments were received at the hotel from the Kingdom in Saudi Arabia as part of lobbying efforts, $30,000 from people promoting Turkish-American relations during part of a convention at the hotel and various rent from tenants at Trump Tower in New York, including Industrial and Commercial Bank of China and the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority.

Another violation of the U.S. Constitution was cited in the articles, saying the U.S. government spent money at businesses of which President Trump has ownership, including, $73,000 by the Secret Service for golf carts and $1,092 by the National Security Council for lodging at Mar-a-Lago.
