52 Weekends Away

I enjoyed the well-researched 52 Weekends Away issue [October 26], and particularly liked the suggestions of what to read while in a place.I always like to read about a destination, both before I travel and while I’m there. When I return, I read more about the places I’ve been, including non-fiction and novels set in the area.

We played “pick your favourite” escape with this issue. Almost as good as being there – well, almost. For me, it was that amazing Earthship house in South Australia built using repurposed car tyres, with coloured-bottle bathroom walls … Good on them. I love the idea of justifying indulging myself by supporting other people’s eco-efforts. Give me more of that excuse, people!
Antonia Simmons
Maroubra, NSW

I enjoyed the cover of this issue: the artwork by William Mackinnon expressed the spirit
of weekends away. I liked the visual reference to Rose Seidler House – a place I have visited, too. I would like to see more of this artist’s work.

Back Chat
Regarding Judith White’s social media comment on the Back Chat page [October 26], she mentioned the song her children learnt with the lyrics, My body’s nobody’s body but mine. Our children also learnt this song when young – from a tape sung by none other than Rolf Harris. The mere mention of this song now sends shivers down my spine.

Kitchen Sink Drama
Brutus holds the secret of happiness [October 26]. That we should all have such wisdom in lapping up the simple life. You go, boy!
