ATLANTA, Ga. – For once it might be a good idea to skip your veggies. E. coli has been reported in salad products like romaine lettuce last month and now another outbreak from another salad distributor.

The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) have announced that there is an outbreak of E. coli linked to the Sunflower Crisp Chopped Salad Kits by Fresh Express.

In the U.S., eight persons have been reported sick, while three have been hospitalized in Minnesota, North Dakota, and Wisconsin. In Canada, 16 people have been reported sick with this E. coli strain and four of them have required hospitalization from Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland and Labrador. No deaths have been reported.

FDA and the CDC advise consumers not to consume the recalled products and discard them. The product linked to this outbreak is the following:

Fresh Express Sunflower Crisp Chopped Salad Kits. UPC: 0 71279 30906 4. Lot code: beginning with Z. Best before date: up to and including 07DEC19

According to the FDA, this outbreak strain is different from the E. coli outbreak linked to romaine from the Salinas, California growing region.
