Orthopaedic surgeon Professor Lawrence Kohan and his wife Gail — who sold in Point Piper to Mamamia co-founders Mia Freedman and Jason Lavigne — have bought in Rose Bay.

The Kohans snapped up a four-bedroom, four-bathroom home with iconic views at 871 New South Head Road for about $10m on September 18, sources other than the sales agents, Ray White Double Bay’s Elliott Placks and Alan Fettes, have revealed.

The owner, wealth planner and developer Phil Hakim told the Wentworth Courier last year that he’d knocked back an offer of $14 million on the five-level home in 2016.

“I wasn’t ready to let it go then,” Hakim said.

Mia Freedman’s Point Piper renovation frenzy

871 New South Head Road, Rose Bay has iconic views.

The rooftop terrace and also the master bedroom have iconic views as well.

The Kohans’ purchase date was just two days after they sold for $12.75m to Freedman and Lavigne in Wunulla Road, through Paul Rich of Rich’s Double Bay, which was more than double the $6.1m they paid seven years before, though they had done renovations.

It’s an interesting swap — the Wunulla Road home is closer to the harbour and has stunning harbour views.

Meanwhile, the Rose Bay home is well back from the harbour but has the advantage of city, Harbour Bridge and Opera House views.

And Professor Kohan, who enjoyed the sauna and swim, even during winter, in Wunulla Road, will be able to do a workout in the gym and sweat it out in the steam room followed by a swim at the couple’s new Rose Bay home.

Darlinghurst’s ‘Glasshouse’ a stunner

Interior designer Nina Skrzynski, founder of Nina Maya Interiors, has listed ‘The Glasshouse’, her three-bedroom, three-bathroom home with parking in Darlinghurst.

Skrzynski bought an original three-bedroom single-level terrace for $1,385,000 on the 133 sqm block at 31 Boundary Street in 2016 and collaborated with Urban Future Architects, Berkley Constructions and Vivid Outdoors and a range of suppliers including Rogerseller and Winning Appliances on the rebuild.

The result is a unique award-winning home with floor-to-ceiling glass including a chefs kitchen with Verde Alpi Marble bar and a PITT gas cooktop.

Custom-made bronze doors lead to the rear car spot.

The Agency’s Ben Collier has a $3.5m price guide ahead of November 7 auction.

A very fashionable adddress

The stylish Vaucluse home built for Nellie Vida, who had a fashion house in Double Bay for 30 years, and her husband Dr Martin Vida, has hit the market with a $5.5m-$5.8m price guide.

Nellie was the first person to bring labels like Chanel and Givenchy to Australia and dressed people for the Black and White balls.

It’s the first time the three-bedroom, two-bathroom home designed by Ron Weinstock at 15 Hopetoun Avenue has been on the market in 45 years.

There’s off-street parking for three cars and the home is built on a flat 835sqm block.

Her best friend was Judy Cassab, the first female Archibald winner and the first female to win the Archibald twice.

Her portrait painted by Judy Cassab is still hanging in the dining room.

Judy and Nellie were bridge partners and traded paintings and dresses.

And it was Judy’s son, Peter Kampfner, who sold the house to Nellie and Martin.

The Agency’s April Strauss has a $5.5m price guide ahead of an October 31 auction.
