HUBBALLI: There is more to Thailand than its tropical beaches and tourism. Agri-tourism is the way forward in many South-East countries including Thailand.
Ananda Teertha Pyati, a farmer-cum-writer from Koppal, has explored the agriculture potential of Thailand. He says several foreign tourists visit Thai villages to buy organic products grown in Thailand.
The farmer has compiled all the information in his travelogue that will be unveiled in Bengaluru on Sunday.
Pyati told TOI that 12 farmers and agriculture activists visited Thailand in March 2018. After returning, he said he was invited by 'Adike Patrike', an agricultural monthly, being brought out by agriculturists, to write a column about his Thai agri-tour. "I wrote my anecdotes of the tour in 15 episodes and now that have been compiled in the form of a book," he added.
Shree Padre, executive editor, Adike Patrike monthly, said in his book Pyati talks of how farmers must tackle the meance of middlemen in the market. This book emphasis on how farmers can return from the market with smile.
G Krishna Prasad, an agriculture activist, said the book provides solutions to problems being faced by Indian farmers.
Mallikarjun Hosapalya, a sustainable agriculture activist from Tumakuru, said, "In India, it's difficult to get a bride for a young farmer while in Thailand parents are keen their daughters marry a farmer. The support for sustainable agriculture being extended by the Thai government is a model for all governments."
