Marjorie Dales, 73

CORONA DEL MAR - Marjorie Ann Dales, 73, died Thursday, Feb. 24,2005.

Born Oct. 22, 1931, in Loma Linda, she lived in Corona del Marfor one year. She lived in Vista previously. She graduated fromBishop Union High School in 1949.

Mrs. Dales was preceded in death by her husband, William Dales.She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Gary Dales ofRedwood City, Ron and Diane Dales of Newport Coast and Bobby andKelly Dales of Sterling, Va.; sister and brother-in-law Evonne andRalph Grossardt of Victorville; and grandchildren Danny, Kristen,Nicole and Kevin.

Visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, March 2,at Eternal Hills Mortuary in Oceanside. A graveside service willfollow at 12:30 p.m. at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Thelma Rizza, 83

OCEANSIDE - Thelma Rizza, 83, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, atTri-City Medical Center of congestive heart failure and a heartattack.

She was born March 28, 1921, in Baltimore. She was a homemaker.She was a parish secretary in Maryland, Colorado and Louisiana. Shewas a Eucharistic minister in Oceanside. She enjoyed golf.

Mrs. Rizza was preceded in death by her husband, Angelo C.Rizza, on Nov. 11, 2000. She is survived by her sons anddaughters-in-law, Ron and Maggie Rizza of Laguna Niguel, and Carland Marion Rizza of Glendale, Ariz.; brothers and sister-in-law Kenand Ellen Bender of Street, Md., and Cass Bender of Baltimore;sister Ang Wajda of Stewartstown, Pa.; and grandchildren Jason,Justin, Michael, Michelle, Stephanie, Shannon and Christine.

Viewing is scheduled from 6 to 7 p.m. and rosary recited from 7to 7:30 p.m. today, March 1, at Eternal Hills Mortuary, 1999 ElCamino Real in Oceanside with the Rev. Tom Goerltz officiating. AMass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 2, at St.Thomas More Catholic Church, 1450 S. Melrose Drive in Oceansidewith the Rev. Ken Kieffer officiating. Burial will follow atEternal Hills Memorial Park.

The family suggests donations to St. Thomas More Catholic ChurchBuilding Fund, 1450 S. Melrose Drive, Oceanside, CA 92056.

Harold Westerhold, 82

VISTA - Harold John Westerhold, 82, died Saturday, Feb. 26,2005, in Oceanside.

Born Sept. 24, 1922, in Pender, Neb., he lived in Vista for 42years. He retired after 27 years as a district manager for theDepartment of Motor Vehicles. He was a member of Gloria DeiLutheran Church in Escondido, the Vista Elks’ Lodge 1968 and theVista Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mr. Westerhold is survived by his wife, Jeanette Westerhold ofVista; sons Harold J. Westerhold Jr. of Vista, and ArnoldWesterhold and David Westerhold, both of Fallbrook; daughter DebraBriones of Vista; nine grandchildren; and sixgreat-grandchildren.

Viewing is scheduled from noon to 1 p.m. and funeral at 1 p.m.Friday, March 4, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Escondido withthe Rev. Warren Naegele officiating. Burial at Eternal HillsMemorial Park in Oceanside is planned.

John Finnerty, 84

SAN DIEGO - John Jarlath Finnerty, 84, died Sunday, Feb. 20,2005, at his home of natural causes.

Born Oct. 11, 1920, in County Galway, Ireland, he lived in SanDiego for 48 years. He retired in 1985 from the San Diego TransitDistrict.

Mr. Finnerty is survived by his wife of 52 years, ElizabethFinnerty of Carlsbad; sons and daughters-in-law John and SoniaFinnerty of Temecula and Michael and Norma Finnerty of Hemet;daughters and sons-in-law May and Scott Barton of Encinitas andElizabeth and Matthew Console of Carlsbad; brother andsister-in-law Peter and Christine Finnerty of New Jersey; andgrandchildren Kelly, Lisa, Nick, Ryan, Russell, Patrick, Kevin,Sara and Daniella.

A private graveside service is scheduled for Wednesday, March 2,at Mission San Luis Rey.

Ruth Lowry, 83

OCEANSIDE - Ruth M. Lowry, 83, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005.

Born Oct. 1, 1921, in Woodlawn, Pa., she lived in Oceanside forseven years. She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. ThomasMore Catholic Church in Oceanside, the Spirited Seniors Group ofSt. Thomas More Catholic Church, and she was chairwoman of theSunshine Committee of Emerald Lake Village.

Mrs. Lowry was preceded in death by her husband, Richard EarlLowry, on Dec. 26, 1997. She is survived by her son, Raymond Lowryof Saginaw, Texas; daughters Nellie Hennington of Oceanside andMargaret Knoernchild of Stanton; sister Leona Weller of LaPine,Ore.; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, at AllenBros. Mortuary, Vista Chapel. A Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m.Thursday, March 3, at Old Mission San Luis Rey Church in Oceansidewith the Rev. Kenneth Kieffer officiating. Burial at Mission SanLuis Rey Cemetery is planned.

Francis Russell, 93

OCEANSIDE - Francis T. Russell, 93, died Wednesday, Feb. 23,2005, at Naval Medical Center on Camp Pendleton.

Born Jan. 19, 1912, in Dorchester, Mass., he lived in Oceansidefor 31 years. He retired in 1974 from U.S. Civil Service.

He retired in 1961 as a Lt. Col. in the U.S. Army. His serviceincluded World War II and Korea. He was a member of St. Patrick#’sCatholic Church in Carlsbad.

Mr. Russell was preceded in death by his wife, Rita M. Russell,in 1997; sisters Eleanor Morrison in 1997, Sister Claire Russell in1995 and Miriam Kelly in 1984; and brother Paul Russell in1991.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, William and AmyRussell of Louisville, Ky.; daughter and son-in-law Mary F. Russelland Francis Console of Oceanside; sister and brothers-in-lawKatherine and John Sopka and John Morrison; and grandchildrenPatrick and Kate.

A memorial Mass was celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 28, atSt. Patrick#’s Catholic Church, 3821 Adams St. in Carlsbad with theRev. Steve McCall officiating. Inurnment will be at 11 a.m. today,March 1, at Mission San Luis Rey Cemetery, 4050 Mission inOceanside with the Rev. McCall officiating.

Robert Lee Miller

Robert Lee Miller of Lake San Marcos died February 23, 2005, athome surrounded by all his loving family.

Bob was born April 25, 1931, to Anna Mae and Harold Miller inKansas City, Missouri.

He moved to Lawndale, California, where he met and fell in lovewith the love of his life, Betty Jean Bowden. They married onAugust 27, 1950.

At a very young age, he became a meat butcher and ran a verysuccessful business in that field for many years. His favoritepastime was golfing and going to the Oceanside pier everymorning.

He was preceded in death by his parents; baby daughter, VictoriaLynn; and his son-in-law, Stephen Pittman.

He left behind his loving wife, Betty Jean, resident of Lake SanMarcos; daughters and sons-in-law Vickie Lee and John Kelly, LaurieJean and Vince Carattini, Geri Lynn and Robert Loebrich, 10beautiful and loving grandchildren; along with 4great-grandchildren with one on the way. He is also survived by hissister, Linda Sue Johnson of Oregon; and many nieces andnephews.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him butespecially for his kind heart he showed to all he met.

Due to his request, there will be no memorial service.

The family wants to thank all who took care of him butespecially to the Elizabeth Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ElizabethHospice.
