Ishëm Fortress Draws Tourists' Attention, Offers Views of the Sea, Mountains, and History

Ishëm Fortress is becoming a popular destination for both local and foreign tourists. Located about 50 kilometers away from Durrës, atop a hill, it offers marvelous views and landscapes. A significant portion of the road leading there offers breathtaking greenery in Ishëm's small forests.

Built in the 16th century by the Ottomans, the height of the fortress, offers the mesmerizing view of the Adriatic, fields, and mountains from Tirana to Ulqin (Montenegro). The researcher Përparim Taipi says that the castle is visited by many people.

Near the entrance of the castle lies the tomb of the world-renowned painter, Ibrahim Kodra.

Earlier, the fortress underwent a partial restoration process thanks to the EU4Culture project, funded by the European Union and implemented by UNOPS in collaboration with the Albanian Ministry of Culture.

The restoration included repairing the fortification walls and continued with rebuilding and consolidating the terrain and landscape within it.
