Extension rolls out ‘Spring Series’ related to home horticulture
Three sessions to be held on Mondays in April in Rock Island
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (KWQC) -With the garden season quickly approaching, University of Illinois Extension is offering an upcoming Spring Series of Home Horticulture to run on April 14, 21, and 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Holiday Inn, Rock Island.
This series of engaging classes will be led by local experts and is designed to expand your knowledge on various hot topics in home horticulture and the environment. Each evening will feature two presentations with ample time for Q&A and snacks.
Whether you join for one evening or all three, attendees will leave inspired and equipped with practical knowledge to enhance your garden and embrace nature’s wonders.

April 14
- Farming and Foraging of Gourmet Mushrooms presented by Joshua McAtee, Owner of Wild Growth Gourmet Mushrooms.
- The Backyard Battle: Identifying and Managing Invasive Species presented by Emily Swihart.
April 21
- Backyard Bird Cousins presented by Jimmy Wiebler, Naturalist and Research Coordinator at Nahant Marsh.
- Forest Bathing: The Japanese Art and Science of Shinrin-Yoku presented by Leslie O’Ryan, Professor in the Counselor Education Department at Western Illinois University.
April 28
- Preserve Like a Pro presented by Kristin Bogdonas, Illinois Extension Nutrition and Wellness Educator.
- Veggie Visions: Unveiling New Flavors in 2025 presented by Bruce Black, Illinois Extension Horticulture Educator.
