WAUSAU, Wis. (WJFW) — The Woodson Art Museum in Wausau might not be the place you'd expect to see pieces of NFL history, but from early March through early June you can.
The museum planned for this exhibit to be about art in the clothes people wear, and with the NFL Draft approaching there was only one group to reach out to.
"All this stuff came from the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. Matt Foss, Director of Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum said. "The museum, which knew it was going to be focusing on the art of clothing design in the spring, decided to form a partnership with the Pro Football Hall of Fame to highlight Pro Football uniform design."
When it comes to art in your everyday life, museum officials say it's all around us.
"Art can not only be in a sculpture or a painting, or a drawing, but everyday items. The clothes we wear, the furniture we sit in, and the way people have put the design element into Pro Football uniforms is a form of art," Foss said.
The exhibit displays uniforms from the 1920s through modern day, showing off the upgrades in design and safety in the equipment.
"To showcase kind of the beginning of how pro uniforms started as basically for function, now being not only functional, but also a design element as well, that not only players enjoy to wear, but also fans enjoy to wear," Foss said.
The display will be up until June 1. Hours are Tuesday through Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and weekends noon-5 p.m. Admission is free.
