Afghan Global Market opens specialty store in Cedar Rapids ahead of other Asian markets

CEDAR RAPIDS — A new specialty market is bringing new horizons of food and specialty imports to Cedar Rapids.

Afghan Global Market held its grand opening at 20 Miller Ave. SW on March 24.

The new market offers a wide selection of food and products from Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Somalia, Turkey and other countries across Africa and the Middle East. Products include Afghan naan, dried fruits, halal meat, energy drinks and unique goods like Afghan carpets, Turkish carpets and dish sets.

The specialty market joins several others in Cedar Rapids, including Vytyl, Yumei’s Asian Market, Saigon Market and Sisters’ African Food Market.

More stores are still in the making. Hornbill Asian Market is set to open at 1556 First Ave. NE this spring. S. International Market, another Asian offering, is underway for a 2025 opening at 803 Third Ave. SE.
