The American Veterans Post OK-11 will host a work day in partnership with the Home Depot Foundation Saturday and volunteers are needed.

The volunteer work day will begin at 8:30 a.m. and run through 4 p.m. Saturday, March 29.

The AmVets moved to the Bus Station and celebrated its first phase of completion March 1.

With two phases to the project, area veterans did around 90% of the work for the first part of the project, along with a few contractors.

On Saturday, March 29, volunteer crews will move onto phase two of the project to renovate the other side of the building.

After the lease on the old AmVets building ended, Second Vice Commander and Accredited Service Officer for AmVets Post 11 Gayla Laufenberg said they purchased the Bus Station building to work out of as a way to provide for the needs for future generations.

With the purchase, Laufenberg said there’s several renovations to get done.

She said volunteers will work alongside Team Depot, the Home Depot's associate volunteer force.

Laufenberg said the volunteers will work on installing three doors, painting the interior and exterior of the building as well as installing a wall partition, floor coverings and drywall.

“AmVets’ mission is to enhance and safeguard the entitlements for all American veterans who have served honorably and to improve the quality of life for them, their families and the communities where they live through leadership, advocacy and services,” Laufenberg said.

AmVets will partner with Home Depot Store 3914-Lawton District 216 OK.
