PROS: To reach the Carpe Diem, a 2007 66-foot Horizon houseboat in the Charlestown Marina, first enter a locked gate and head down the dock. Board through the enclosed bow deck, which includes a seating area and windows that lift to create an open-air space. It’s ideal for a small gathering or just enjoying the harbor scenery. “If you want to sit back and relax, you can do that. Or if you want to entertain friends and family, you can do that, too,” says Chad Johansen, who bought the boat in 2019 with Holly Josephson to live on full time. Head through a sliding glass door into an open area with wood paneling that serves as the galley and main living space. The helm is tucked to the left. Kitchen includes a prep island, new counters and sink, and a surprising amount of storage. Floor-to-ceiling salon windows look out onto neighboring boats, the harbor, and city skyline; they also provide the owners’ cats sunny napping spots. Other highlights include new flooring, and a mini-split to supplement the electric heat and air. Down the hall, there’s a guest bath with shower and a guest room with a full-size bed. (Baths were updated in 2023 and have electric macerator heads—meaning no holding tank odor.) Rounding out the main level is the primary bedroom with a raised queen-size bed. No worries about climbing into bed—there are built-in steps. (Beds on this level are raised to create space on the lower level, where there’s a small office, third bedroom, and more storage.) The suite has its own bath with full-size shower, a laundry closet, and slider to a small deck. Topping it all off is the flybridge, a 55-foot-long open deck featuring a dining area with grill, seating area with a propane fire pit, and a covered wet bar. Johansen says it’s the perfect spot to throw a Fourth of July party and watch Harborfest fireworks. CONS Boat is approved to stay but slip location may change; buyers have to set up contract with marina.
