Software professional suspected of killing wife in Bengaluru telephoned neighbour from Maharashtra to report presence of body
A police team from Bengaluru has reached Pune and will take suspect Rakesh Khedekar into custody for the probe of the murder of his wife as soon as he is discharged from the hospital.

A software professional who is alleged to have murdered his wife at their rented residence in Bengaluru on Thursday before fleeing to Maharashtra reported the murder himself by informing a tenant in the residential building of the presence of his wife’s body in the locked apartment on the first floor.
The body of Gauri Anil Sambrekar, 32, the wife of the software professional, Rakesh Rajendra Khedekar, 36, was found stuffed inside a trolley bag lying in a bathroom of the house by the owner of the building – who opened the door of the rented property, along with a police team, after being informed by the tenant of the phone call he received from Khedekar.
After informing the tenant of the presence of the body of his wife, the suspect, Rakesh Khedekar, who fled in a car to Maharashtra, is alleged to have attempted suicide but was found by the Maharashtra Police.
“The husband is alleged to have attempted suicide. He has been admitted to a hospital in Pune. The blood relatives of the victim have come to Bengaluru to identify the body and file a complaint. The prima facie indication is that the motive for the murder is a marital dispute,” Bengaluru police commissioner B Dayananda said Friday.
According to the FIR registered by the Hulimavu police in the murder of Gauri Anil Sambrekar – based on a complaint filed by the owner of the house where the couple lived – the accused Rakesh Khedekar telephoned another tenant Prabir Singh and informed him about the presence of his wife’s body in the rented house where he had been living.
According to the complaint by Sanitha G, the house owner, the other tenant who was living on the ground floor telephoned her at around 4.35 pm on Thursday and stated that he had received a call from Khedekar saying the body of his wife was lying in the house.
Based on the information, the complainant telephoned the police emergency number of 112, and after a police team arrived at the scene, the house owner opened the locked first floor where Khedekar and his wife stayed.
The Bengaluru police began tracking the location of Khedekar’s mobile phone based on the calls he had made to the tenant and found that he had reached Maharashtra. They alerted the local police and dispatched a team from Bengaluru as well to locate Khedekar. The Maharashtra Police tracked down the software professional shortly after he allegedly attempted suicide.
