There are a lot of guidelines that must be followed when visiting any airport

Passengers had previously been asked to arrive three hours before their flight. This was due to due to ongoing security upgrades. At the time, the airport stated: "Due to ongoing works to improve your security experience, we are asking departing passengers to arrive at the airport three hours before their flight. Over the next few weeks, we are upgrading our remaining security lanes to the brand-new Next Gen equipment."
A new update posted to their website and social media pages this morning, has provided passengers with a huge update that may make the security process a lot quicker. LJLA said: "Good news - the works that have been ongoing in recent weeks to improve your security experience have been completed and we now advise departing passengers to arrive at the airport two hours before your flight as normal.
"The installation of this new security equipment means that you no longer need to place your liquids in a clear, sealable plastic bag as these can now simply remain in your hand luggage along with large electrical devices like laptops and iPads, as they pass through the security screening equipment. Liquid items are, however, still restricted to a container size of up to 100ml."
With the introduction of the new changes, passengers have voiced their opinions about the announcement. On Facebook, Jon Davies said: "90 seconds for the 4 of us yesterday getting through security. At 11.00 am." A second person wrote " well done! You definitely handled the transition much better than our local airport. Looking forward to flying with you for the first time in a few weeks."
Sharing further advice for having a smooth security experiences at the Speke airport, LJLA outlines on their website:
To ensure a smooth security experience, please follow these guidelines:
- Remove coats, hats, scarves, belts and heeled shoes or boots before reaching the security checkpoint
- Liquids are allowed to remain in your hand luggage, with a maximum limit of 100ml per container. There is no need to take them out of your bag when passing through security
- Large electronic devices can stay in your hand luggage - you don't need to take them out of your bags
To avoid delays at security, it is recommended that food and powders be packed in your hold luggage, where possible. If you must carry them in your hand luggage, please allow extra time for security screening as your items may be subject to inspection.
Liquids in containers of 100ml or less are permitted to remain in your hand luggage. Exceptions are made for medication (with prescription label) and baby food. For medication and baby food over 100ml, they must be removed from your hand luggage prior to x-ray screening.
Essential medicines may be permitted in large quantities above the 100ml limit, but will be subject to authentication. All medicines should carry the prescription label clearly showing the name of the passenger.
In line with UK Department for Transport regulations, security scanners are in use at Liverpool John Lennon Airport. This is to ensure no prohibited items are taken onboard an aircraft or into the airport. You can opt out of using the security scanner however this will lead to enhanced search which may make your security experience longer.
