Our Family Foods Coffee Recall Packaging Detail

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a recall affecting thousands of coffee packages distributed across 15 states due to a mislabeling issue. The recall, initiated on March 13, involves 4,152 12-ounce bags of Our Family Traverse City Cherry Decaffeinated Ground Coffee, which may actually contain caffeine.

The FDA classified the incident as a Class II recall on March 27, indicating that while the products could cause temporary health issues, the risk of serious adverse effects remains low. The recall specifically impacts bags labeled with a best-before date of August 3, 2025, and a UPC code of 0 70253 11080 1.

A statement from the FDA noted, “A portion of the production was mislabeled as decaffeinated.” The inaccurate labeling poses a significant risk for consumers who are sensitive to caffeine and may unknowingly consume the affected products.

Our Family Foods, the company behind the products, emphasizes its commitment to quality. “Our commitment to quality has remained the same, generation after generation,” the company stated. Despite this recall, Our Family Foods asserts its dedication to connecting with shoppers and supporting local communities. FOX Business reached out to the company for further comments but has not yet received a response.

The recalled coffee was distributed to retailers in several states, including Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. Consumers who purchased these products are advised to check their packaging carefully.

According to the FDA’s guidelines, decaffeinated products may still contain small amounts of caffeine, typically ranging from 2 to 15 milligrams per 8-ounce cup. For individuals with strong adverse reactions to caffeine, the FDA advises complete avoidance of these products.

In a recent unrelated incident, Frito-Lay also issued a recall on March 26 for 13-ounce bags of Tostitos Cantina Traditional Yellow Corn Tortilla Chips due to potential allergen concerns. Coca-Cola also had to recall several products this week owing to the risk of plastic contamination. These incidents highlight the importance of vigilance in food labeling and consumer safety.
