Mum's simple method for keeping her rugs looking new with cheap kitchen cupboard item

A cleaning expert has shared the simple spring cleaning trick she uses to get her rugs looking fresh again without taking it to a professional. Giving a rug a refresh doesn’t have to be hard work or need to be done by a professional – using bicarbonate of soda and a steam mop with a carpet attachment you can give your rug a new lease of life with minimal effort.

If the rug isn’t too heavy, start by taking it outside and giving it a good shake.

Next bring it back inside and sprinkle bicarbonate of soda across the rug, allow it to sit for 20 minutes, then use a vacuum cleaner to thoroughly remove the bicarb.

This will help remove any smells that could be on the rug.

For the final step, pop the carpet glider attachment onto the Vileda Steam Plus steam mop and steam the rug.

This should help kill 99% of bacteria with just water and loosen any dirt or marks, which can then be dabbed away with a damp microfibre cloth.

Using the steam mop saves time as no scrubbing is required and is perfect if you want to clean without using harsh chemicals.
