NICOLA Kavanagh, who runs Phoenix Fitness Studio, has been nominated for four different categories in the British Fitness Awards 2025.
The mum of two has been nominated for Gym of the Year, Gym Manager, Female Fitness Trainer, and Female Personal Trainer.
Phoenix Fitness Studio, located in Widnes, is a community-based gym offering a variety of classes for all fitness levels.
The British Fitness Awards, which recognise incredible talent and dedication within the fitness community, cover nominees from across the country.
Nicola, 41, said: “This news really has made my week.
“Running my community gym completely on my own is tough, but it’s my members that continue to walk through my doors, week in and week out, who keep me going.”
Nicola is married to her husband, Liam, and the couple have two teenage boys, Kian and Aiden.
She opened her first studio eight years ago and relocated to a larger space in Widnes town centre three years ago.
The gym offers a mix of resistance and dance-based classes and also hosts Show Stoppers Dance School run by Beth and Pole Fitness by PoleKat.
Nicola said: “The morning classes are mainly aimed at those who are retired, while people usually come after work to the evening classes.
“We’re a little fitness family, it’s lovely.
“We also have social events where we go out for drinks and meals.
“We’ve built a really good community.”

As well as running the studio, Nicola holds fundraising events to support ‘Taking a Walk in Their Shoes’, a community group providing food to struggling families in Halton.
She also organises sponsored runs for Halton Cancer Support Group.
Nicola said: “We try to do as much as we can to raise money in the community.
“I couldn’t ask for more. I wouldn’t be where I am now without my members - I absolutely love them all.”
Studio member Barbara Corless said: “Nicola goes above and beyond to create an amazing fitness family from ages 18 to 83.
“She is so enthusiastic. The classes offer great variety, from dance and mature movers, to body blitz, step and sculpt, and more.”
