TIME FOR WGAL NEWS EIGHT TO GO. THE NEWS EIGHT TODAY TEAM IS HERE TO HELP YOU START YOUR DAY. AND WE BEGIN WITH REGINA. GOOD MORNING EVERYONE. I’M LIVE HERE IN HARRISBURG BY THE 29TH STREET BRIDGE. AND PENNDOT WILL BE WORKING ON THE 29TH STREET BRIDGE TONIGHT BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 9 P.M. TO 6 A.M. AND THAT WILL INVOLVE A LANE RESTRICTION. SO JUST KEEP THAT IN MIND IF YOU’RE DRIVING THROUGH THE CAPITAL CITY TODAY, WE’LL ALSO BE TALKING ABOUT THE BELTWAY CAPITAL BELTWAY PROJECT TONIGHT AT 6 P.M. SO BE SURE TO TUNE IN FOR THAT. ALL RIGHT. GOOD MORNING. YOU SEE IT IS AN IMPACT DAY. AND THE REASON WHY WE HAVE A COLD FRONT ON THE APPROACH FROM THE WEST AHEAD OF THAT FRONT TODAY WE’LL SEE SOME SCATTERED SHOWERS, SOME THUNDERSTORMS, ESPECIALLY TO THE SOUTH AND TO THE EAST OF HARRISBURG. BUT THIS MORNING, JUST SOME PLAIN OLD SHOWERS TO CONTEND WITH FOR YOUR MORNING DRIVE. NOTHING SEVERE HERE. THE SEVERE THREAT WILL BE LATE THIS AFTERNOON INTO THE EVENING. CURRENT TEMPERATURES VERY MILD, 5060, A LITTLE COOLER AIR TRYING TO SNEAK IN FROM NORTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA. THERE’S A BOUNDARY DRAPED RIGHT OVER OUR NORTHEASTERN COUNTIES. LET ME SHOW YOU THE HOUR BY HOUR FORECAST TODAY. IT’S FAIRLY QUIET IN THE MORNING. IN THE AFTERNOON AS WELL, BUT LATE AFTERNOON TOWARD EVENING, THAT’S WHEN THE STORMS BLOSSOM. AND NOTICE WHERE THEY ARE TO THE EAST OF HARRISBURG, TO TO THE SOUTH OF HARRISBURG FOR THE HIGHEST THREAT. OUR THREATS TODAY INCLUDE HEAVY RAIN, DAMAGING WIND GUSTS, AND ALSO THE POSSIBILITY OF SOME HAIL. WE’LL TAKE A LOOK AT THE COOLER WEATHER TO FOLLOW TOMORROW. COMING UP, YOUR DRIVE THIS MORNING SHOULD BE GOOD TO GO. IT’S BEEN CLEAR ON OUR MAP ALL MORNING LONG AND THAT CONTINUES. THIS IS A LIVE LOOK FROM LANCASTER COUNTY. 222 AND 30 AS TRAFFIC IS MOVING ALONG. FINE. IF YOU’RE IN HARRISBURG HEADING OUT OF THE CAPITAL CITY AGAIN, YOU’LL HAVE A NICE DRIVE SO FAR THIS MORNING. BREAKING OVERNIGHT, CREWS RESPONDED TO A GARAGE FIRE IN SPRINGETTSBURY TOWNSHIP IN YORK COUNTY. DISPATCHERS SAY CREWS WERE CALLED OUT TO ARBOR LANE NEAR PLEASANT VALLEY ROAD IN CONIFER COURT. IT WAS JUST BEFORE 130 THIS MORNING. CREWS WERE ON THAT SCENE FOR ABOUT AN HOUR. DISPATCHERS SAY THEY ARE NOT AWARE OF ANY INJURIES. AN INVESTIGATION INTO A DEADLY FIRE CONTINUES THIS MORNING IN DAUPHIN COUNTY. A MAN, WOMAN AND FOUR DOGS ALL DIED IN A HOUSE FIRE YESTERDAY MORNING ON FAIRFAX DRIVE IN LOWER PAXTON TOWNSHIP. POLICE SAY THAT THE FIREFIGHTERS FOUND ELISE SALCEDO, WHO WAS 33 YEARS OLD, UNRESPONSIVE ON THE SECOND FLOOR. THEY TOOK HER OUTSIDE, BUT SHE WAS NEVER ABLE TO REGAIN CONSCIOUSNESS. INVESTIGATORS SAY THEY MET THE MAN THEY FOUND WAS ALSO ON THE SECOND FLOOR. THREE OTHER DOGS WERE FOUND ALIVE OUTSIDE THE HOME. THEY WERE SENT TO THE DAUPHIN COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY. TODAY, THE TRIAL IN THE DECADES OLD CASE CONTINUES IN LANCASTER. WE’RE TALKING ABOUT JERRY BAGGENSTOSS, CHARGED IN THE MURDER OF HIS ESTRANGED WIFE MORE THAN 40 YEARS AGO. IN THAT FIRST DAY OF TESTIMONY ON FRIDAY. NOW RETIRED TROOPER RICHARD JOHNSON TALKED ABOUT HOW STATE POLICE TOOK OVER THAT CASE FROM PEQUEA TOWNSHIP POLICE ONE WEEK AFTER THE DISAPPEARANCE OF MARIANNE BAGGENSTOSS IN JUNE OF 1984. IN OPENING STATEMENTS, THE DEFENSE SAID THE CASE HAD NO REAL EVIDENCE AND THAT WHEN INVESTIGATORS GOT DESPERATE, THEY BLAMED JERRY BAGGENSTOSS. WHILE PROSECUTORS SAY JERRY BAGGENSTOSS LIED ABOUT NOT GOING TO WORK, ABOUT HAVING HIS CHILD AND ABOUT HIS ESTRANGED WIFE ON THE DAY SHE DISAPPEARED. LATER THIS MORNING, THE AHMADIYYA MUSLIM COMMUNITY’S HARRISBURG CHAPTER IS CELEBRATING EID AL-FITR. THAT EVENT IS SET FOR 1030 IN THE HODI MOSQUE. IT MARKS THE END OF RAMADAN FOR MUSLIMS. THAT’S THE MONTH LONG DAWN TO DUSK FAST THAT BILLIONS OF PEOPLE ACROSS THE WORLD OBSERVE. OUR FORECAST TODAY, OF COURSE, HAS AN IMPACT DAY BECAUSE OF SOME LATE DAY STORMS, ESPECIALLY THIS EVENING TO THE SOUTH AND TO THE EAST OF HARRISBURG. 76 IS THE HIGH TODAY, BUT 54 AS APRIL BEGINS TOMORROW. THAT’S A LITTLE MORE TYPICAL FOR THIS TIME OF THE YEAR. WEDNESDAY WILL BE MAINLY DRY. MAYBE A STRAY SHOWER LATE, BUT THURSDAY? FRIDAY ALL THE WAY THROUGH SUNDAY HAVE SOME BENEFICIAL RAIN CHANCES. SOUNDS LIKE MARCH IS GOING
