President Donald Trump on Sunday announced he had invited comedian Bill Maher to the White House as a favor to close ally and rapper Kid Rock.

Maher, an outspoken Democrat, is known for his TV show Real Time in which he engages in political debates with guests. He is a vocal critic of Trump, something the president acknowledged in a post via Truth Social.

I got a call from a very good guy, and friend of mine, Kid Rock, asking me whether or not it would be possible for me to meet, in the White House, with Bill Maher, a man who has been unjustifiably critical of anything, or anyone, TRUMP,” he wrote. “I really didn’t like the idea much, and don’t like it much now, but thought it would be interesting.

Trump added that he does not expect the invitation will cause Maher to change his tune.

“The problem is, no matter how much he likes your Favorite President, ME, he will publicly proclaim what a terrible guy I am, etc,” he added. “Who knows, though, maybe I’ll be proven wrong?”

He added UFC owner Dana White, another close Trump ally, may also be in attendance at the meeting

“It might be fun or, it might not, but you will be the first to know!” Trump said.

Maher made waves in January when he expressed interest in Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

“I’m curious to see, for example, what Elon Musk is going to do,” Maher said during an appearance on "The Stephen A. Smith Show" podcast. “I’m curious to see how influential he’s going to be. He is tasked with reinventing the government basically.”

The comedian in December also stated he “may quit” than continue hosting his show under another Trump presidency.

“I mean, I may quit,” Maher said. “Because I don’t wanna do another – I did Trump. I did all the Trump stuff before anybody. I called him a con man before anybody. I did, ‘he’s a mafia boss.’ I was the one who said he wasn’t gonna concede the election. I’ve done it."

“He’s very hostile to me. He tweets about me every week,” Maher added.
