BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. (WBNG) -- Broome County Executive Jason Garnar declared April a time to raise awareness and take preventative measures.

Garnar said every child deserves to grow up in a safe space and that teachers, parents and bystanders are responsible for keeping children safe.

A representative from the Broome County Child Advocacy Center said we need to spotlight the positive work being done to give kids a brighter future.

“This month is a reminder that we all play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of children in Broome County and beyond,” noted Coordinator Dan Lesch. “It’s a time for us to not only raise awareness but reaffirm our commitment to protecting and nurturing every child.”

Lesch said that Prevention Month is about recognizing the problem and celebrating our community’s strength and progress.

The most important thing is listening when a child speaks and supporting them.
