Nintendo Co. teased the June 5 release date, features and numerous titles for its new gaming console during its latest Nintendo Direct presentation streamed on April 2 on the company's YouTube channels.

A Japanese-language version of the console will retail for 49,980 yen ($338) and owners can only link their Nintendo Accounts with it if their country is set to Japan.

The multi-language version of the console for global release will cost 69,980 yen.

Like its predecessor, the Switch 2 is a hybrid console that is portable and can be set up at home.

The detachable Joy-Con 2 controllers on either side are now attached with magnets instead of the slide-and-lock configuration.

The new system has been designed to be slightly larger than the original for an improved user experience, according to the company.

Internal storage has increased from 32 gigabytes to 256. In terms of external memory cards, Nintendo is ditching microSD cards that the Switch uses and only faster microSD Express cards will be compatible with its new console.

Most original Switch games can be played on the Switch 2 and data can be transferred over using a Nintendo account.

The original Nintendo Switch, which was launched in March 2017, has sold more than 150 million units worldwide.
