Mosaic Church out of Petersburg spent their Sunday serving the community in the church’s for “GO SERVE,” for their fifth Sunday of the Month. The program, GO SERVE, invites those who attend the church to spend the fifth Sunday of the month going out into the community and serving in a variety of ways from cooking a free pancake breakfast for all to enjoy, to visiting residents at Amber Manor and also going into the community to help those in need with various tasks around their homes.
GO SERVE Is a community service initiative that was birthed from a message given at Mosaic Church on Matthew chapter 25,” said Joe Esarey, lead pastor of the Petersburg campus. “Jesus said, “When you did it until the least of these, you did it unto Me.” His reference to “the least of these “ represents people all around us every day. People are hungry. People are lonely. People are hurting. People need help. We take every fifth Sunday and make that a GO SERVE Sunday. Instead of having church, we want to go be the church.”
Sunday, March 30 was Mosaic Church’s first fifth Sunday to do this and it was a hit. FEED ME, HELP ME and VISIT ME were the three large Mosaic teams in the community on Sunday. The FEED ME team made hundreds of pancakes to serve to the community. In addition, we had opportunity to personally serve every inmate in the Pike County Jail Sunday morning and offer a blessing to each inmate. The HELP ME team was in the homes of some of our elderly residents cleaning floors, windows, bathrooms, landscaping, and anything else that would be a help to them. The VISIT ME team spent the day at Amber Manor with singing, gifts made by our children’s ministry for the residents, companionship in their rooms and enjoying numerous games of lively bingo. All three teams worked in the community simultaneously in different areas of the community for the sole purpose of meeting one of three needs; help for those who need assistance in their home, food for the hungry, and friendship for the lonely.
Our next GO SERVE Sunday will be Sunday, June 29 and we plan to make a difference in the lives of even more in our community,” said Esarey. “What I saw in the people of Mosaic Church was pure joy as they were all serving. Inmates in the jail, the elderly in the nursing home, older homeowners who can no longer do certain chores…the appreciation shown by everyone was matched by the pure joy felt by those serving. We are the body of Christ, the church. The church is the visible representation of Christ on the Earth. Jesus came in the flesh to serve, not be served. If we are His body, why aren’t His arms reaching? Why aren’t His feet going? Why is His love not showing? GO SERVE is one of many ways Mosaic Church desires for the community to see and feel the love of Jesus.”
