A former head of the Department of Energy’s energy efficiency office is now lobbying for companies regulated by that office.

Dan Simmons, who was DOE’s assistant secretary for energy efficiency and renewable energy during President Donald Trump’s previous term, disclosed this week that he’s now lobbying for the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers.

It’s the first lobbying arrangement for Simmons, who established the firm Simmons Energy and Environmental Strategies after Trump left office in 2021. Paperwork filed with Congress says only that Simmons is lobbying on “appliance standards.”

AHAM spokesperson Jill Notini confirmed that it had retained Simmons. “Daniel Simmons is a consultant with deep expertise in the energy standards and policy area,” she said in an email. The group represents companies that make appliances like stoves, washing machines, dryers and televisions.
