LIDL is launching a new service for the first time and it'll give shoppers the chance to snap up middle aisle items quicker.

The retailer is kicking off a click and collect trial for customers signed up to its Lidl Plus loyalty scheme in days.

From April 7, shoppers can reserve two garden products via the smartphone app ahead of their launch in stores on April 24.

Customers will then be able to select a time between April 16 and April 19 to collect either of them from their local branch.

The two products up for grabs are the Parkside Robot Lawnmower and a Parkside Robot Lawnmower Garage.

Both products cost £199 and £24.99, respectively, or £249 and £29.99 for non Lidl Plus customers.

Jassine Ouali, chief customer officer from Lidl GB, said: "We’re always exploring bold new ways to enhance our customers’ shopping experience and are pleased to be in a position where we can bring this latest trial to life.

“We know how popular our Middle of Lidl deals are, and this trial will give our Lidl Plus customers the chance to secure a must-have item before it hits the shelves."

As with all middle aisle items, stock is limited so you'll have to be quick if you want to reserve the lawnmower or garage.

The lawnmower is automated meaning you can turn it on and leave it to cut your grass independently.

It comes with a three-year warranty, 45-minute running time and takes 60 minutes to charge.

Meanwhile, the garage lets shoppers park their lawnmower to protect it from rain and sunlight.

Click and collect changes

Primark is in the process of rolling out click and collect across dozens of shops across the UK.

The service lets shoppers order clothes online then pick them up in-store.

The bargain fashion retailer first launched the service as a trial in November 2022 and has been rolling it out since.

What is Lidl Plus?

Lidl Plus is Lidl's loyalty scheme and has 100million users across the world, according to the supermarket.

The rewards scheme gives shoppers a host of offers including multi-buy deals and exclusive discounts on certain products.

Customers can also earn freebies if they spend a certain amount in shops each week.

For example, anyone spending £10 can get a free bakery item.

It went live in 18 stores in February, including in Darlington, Newcastle, Sunderland and Llanelli in Wales.

Wilko also re-launched its click and collect service last April, with shoppers able to pick up from over 200 locations.

Items ordered through the service can be collected with as little as two hours' notice.

In January, Tesco announced it would open more click and collect slots for customers.

Shoppers can now collect food and other products from 12pm instead of 4pm previously.

Not all retailers are rolling out click and collect more widely though.

Last summer Aldi axed the service at nearly 200 stores with shoppers left devastated.

The German discounter launched it at the height of the coronavirus pandemic.

A spokesperson for the retailer said the decision to launch the service in 2020 was always as part of a trial which had been under constant review.
