Walmart closed several stores in 2024, but no closures have been announced for 2025 yet.
In 2024, Walmart closed a total of 11 stores in states such as California, Colorado, Georgia, Maryland, Ohio and Wisconsin.
While these store closings may seem like a wave of bad news for the big box retailer, Walmart is actually expanding its offerings at existing locations.
More than 45 gas stations and convenience stores will open for the first time or be refurbished, according to Fox Business.
Walmart currently has more than 400 gas stations and convenience stores in 34 U.S. states.
The expansion of Walmart’s gas station operation comes at a time when wholesaler rivals, such as Costco, are extending their gas station hours to attract more consumers.
The company currently operates 5,205 Walmart stores and Sam’s Clubs across the U.S, including 70 stores and clubs in New Jersey.
