Prince Harry 'went ballistic' at photos of Princess Eugenie and Piers Morgan laughing together

Prince Harry was once known to be very close with his younger cousin, Princess Eugenie, who was supportive of his relationship with his wife, Meghan, from day one. Now their bond is said to have 'soured'

They were once known to be close confidantes, but now tensions are said to be brewing between Prince Harry and his younger cousin, Princess Eugenie. Although he is largely estranged from several Royal family members, including his father, King Charles III, and brother, Prince William, Harry has long shown great affection for Eugenie, whom he fondly refers to as 'Euge'. In his bombshell 2023 memoir Spare, the Duke recalled how Eugenie, 35, got along with his wife Meghan "as if they were sisters."

Mum-of-two Eugenie even made a brief appearance in the 2022 Netflix series Harry & Meghan, in which she visited the Sussexes. However, it would appear that the bond between the pair has now "soured" after Eugenie was spotted hanging out with Piers Morgan - a longtime critic of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Outspoken Piers now appears to have confirmed the rumours, claiming that Harry, 40, "went completely ballistic" after Eugenie was photographed hugging him at a London pub.

Princess Eugenie (L), daughter of Britain's Prince Andrew, and Britain's Prince Harry (R), the Duke of Sussex, depart after the Coronation of Britain's King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Westminster Abbey, London, Britain, 06 May 2023. Coronations of British Kings and Queens have taken place at Westminster Abbey for the last 900 years. The service was attended by around 100 heads of state from around the world.

During a chat with Daily Mail columnist Maureen Callahan on Piers' talkshow Uncensored, the topic turned to the alleged rift between Harry and Eugenie. Maureen remarked: "[Harry] has zero relationship with his friends and his family. [I] just read that he cut off his relationship with Eugenie."

It was then that Piers responded: "Well, that was because of me actually - the Eugenie thing - because she was with me and a group of other people in a pub in London. I was seen hugging them goodbye, and Harry saw this and went completely ballistic. And I can confirm - breaking news - that this is entirely true."

Back in April 2023, Princess Eugenie and her elder sister Princess Beatrice were seen leaving the trendy Notting Hill gastropub, The Princess Royal pub, following a long lunch in a group which included Piers and singer James Blunt.

The group, who could be seen laughing uproariously outside the characterful Sunday roast hotspot, washed down their meal with at least three magnums of Chateau Lynch Bages 1999 red wine, which costs approximately £145 per bottle. It's unclear exactly what the reason was behind this star-studded gathering. However, in a 2021 column for the Mail on Sunday, Piers expressed his liking for Beatrice and Eugenie's mother, Sarah Ferguson. He wrote: "I’ve always had a soft spot for Fergie"

Former Good Morning Britain host Piers also recalled a conversation with the two Princesses, in which he told Beatrice, sharing: "'‘Please thank your mum for her supportive texts when I left GMB,’ I told her. ‘She’s always been very loyal to me, and I greatly appreciate it'." Beatrice, 36, is said to have responded: "'Well, you’ve been very loyal to her,’ Beatrice replied, ‘and she appreciates that too'."

In the same column, Piers went on to make pointed comparisons between the two royal sisters and their "spoiled-brat cousins over in California". Piers declared: "I’ve known both Princesses since they were very young, and they’ve been through a lot of tough times in the media spotlight, especially lately over their father Prince Andrew’s shameful friendship with billionaire paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

"But they never complain, or give whining interviews, or publicly trash their family, and they’re always incredibly nice, polite and good fun – which all makes such a refreshing change from their narcissistic, self-pitying, family-abusing, spoiled-brat cousins over in California."

The alleged row between Harry and Eugenie was previously reported on in The Sun, with a source telling the publication: “A dim view was taken of this, as Piers has clashed with Meghan and Harry in the past. Eugenie has been supportive of Harry and Meghan for years and was right there at the beginning of their relationship — but it has now soured.”

Piers was initially a vocal supporter of Meghan, with the pair following each other on Twitter after the broadcaster got stuck into watching her legal drama, Suits. The pair allegedly even met for a platonic drink in the summer of 2016.

Reflecting on their meeting in a November 2016 piece for the Mail Online, Piers gushed: "I'm not surprised he's fallen for her, or that he's so ferociously protecting their relationship. Meghan's got beauty, brains, charm and a great sense of humour. She's also an ambitious, hard-working and talented actress with an impressive passion for things she believes in."

For a while, Piers continued to cheer on the actress in her new royal role, even jokingly asking for an invite to the May 2018 wedding. However, Piers later became cold towards Meghan, alleging that she'd ghosted him after their chat in the pub.

During an appearance on The Late Late Show in September 2018, Piers claimed: "Meghan Markle ghosted me. I really liked her — this is why it hurts. She's just a slight social climber, I'm afraid."

From thereon, Piers became increasingly critical of the Duchess, with things reaching a head in 2021 following Harry and Meghan's explosive Oprah interview. Accusing Meghan of lying about her mental health issues, Piers tweeted: "I wouldn't believe Meghan Markle if she gave me a weather report. "Is it too late for Oscar nominations?"

The broadcaster continued this rhetoric on Good Morning Britain, where weatherman Alex Beresford called him out on his repeated harsh critiques of the mother of two. Piers ended up storming offstage in outrage, all while OFCOM complaints came flooding in. Shortly after the outburst, Piers stepped down from his position on GMB.

At the time of writing, neither Harry nor Eugenie has made a public statement regarding the alleged fallout.
