As difficult as it may be to imagine any kind of Oscar awards ceremony in which Eric André walks away with an award for best supporting actor, according to the prankster talk show host, that is exactly what almost happened. André says Jesse Eisenberg offered him the same role in "A Real Pain" that Kieran Culkin ultimately won an Oscar for.

Speaking on Andrew Santino's "Whiskey Ginger" podcast, André said, "Two years ago, Jesse Eisenberg called me...offered me the ['A Real Pain'] role that Kieran Culkin got the Oscar for. I was like, 'That seems really miserable and not in my lane.' I read the script. I was like, 'To go to Poland for six weeks and shoot a movie where we're just babbling about the Holocaust, seems like a bummer.'"

As the official logline of "A Real Pain" reads, "Following the death of their beloved, Holocaust-survivor grandmother, two estranged cousins embark on a trip to Poland to reconnect with their heritage, only to find their relationship and their understanding of family history put to the test."
Kieran Culkin said yes to the same part André passed on, and wound up beating out Oscar contenders such as Edward Norton ("A Complete Unknown"), Guy Pearce ("The Brutalist"), and his "Succession" costar Jeremy Strong ("The Apprentice").
"I was like, 'Appreciate the offer. I'm sure it's gonna be great. I don't think that's what I'm looking for right now,'" André recalled. "The motherf---er won an Oscar for the role I passed up. It's not like I get offered roles constantly. I'm not f---ing Leonardo [DiCaprio]."
André is best known for his wild and often surreal comedy series "The Eric Andre Show," but he has acted outside the series. He's done a good amount of voice acting for animated projects, particularly for the Netflix fantasy series "Disenchantment." He also appears as an antagonist in Season 2 of HBO's "The Righteous Gemstones."
Kieran Culkin has been acting since the early nineties alongside his brother but his widespread acclaim truly took off as he made his turn as Roman Roy in the HBO hit "Succession." His next project is as the voice of Squealer in Andy Serkis's adaptation of George Orwell's "Animal Farm."
