On April 4, Song announced that she’s taking legal action against those trolling her online, and revealed that her legal team has already filed lawsuits against some. The actor also addressed the dating rumours with BTS member Park Jimin, which has plagued her personal life since 2022.

The Handmaiden actor shared a screenshot from her legal representative showing a message from someone who’s already been sued, now requesting if the complaint could be withdrawn. “The accused would like to apologise and check if it’s possible to withdraw the complaint,” the individual asked. Song replied, “Why are you creating situations where an apology is needed?” She continued, “I don’t need an apology. I’m proceeding with more diverse charges. I’ve never been accused.”

Dating rumours with BTS’ Jimin

Song Da Eun, who made her big screen debut in 2016, got embroiled in a dating controversy with the “Filter” crooner after the speculation first blew up on South Korean social media Pann Nate. Some members compiled a segment of so-called ‘evidence,’ including alleged couple items and Instagram posts. At the time, she dismissed the rumours, saying it was all unrelated to her, and called out fan communities like ARMYs for their intimidating nature, even calling them scary. She also warned of legal action. However, in 2024, the rumours resurfaced after Song herself subtly referenced Jimin. The matter went out of control when she posted a photo of a pair of iPod cases inscribed with the names ‘Daeun’ and ‘Jimin’. Although she quickly deleted the post, it left BTS fans frustrated, and Song nearly stopped posting online altogether.

“There’s a reason I haven’t posted on my feed for months. Don’t start rumours saying I’ve become the accused. Now I’m even more eager to catch them,” she wrote, addressing rumors that have trailed her since 2022. “Everything’s my fault? Burning Sun? Escort girl? Fake news? That’s not me. I’m not the accused.” Among the hate messages was one that accused her of being a “stalker” in a “world superstar dating rumour.” She responded with another warning: “This is a comment from someone who’s already been sued. If you don’t want to get sued for similar stuff, it’s best to stay quiet.” She’s also hit back at those dragging her name online, saying: “I didn’t say anything that wasn’t true. Keep writing! It works in my favour.”

For the unversed, the Burning Sun scandal or the Burning Sun Gate was a 2019 entertainment and sex scandal in Seoul, South Korea. The list included several big names from the drama, movie, and K-pop industries, as well as high-ranking police officials. The matter came to light after an MBC report about the assault of a male clubgoer at Burning Sun, a high profile nightclub in Gangnam, by a staff member. Soon after, the club was investigated and found to be allegedly involved in prostitution, drug trafficking, and police corruption. The scandal single-handedly ended the careers of several K-pop idols and derailed major projects of multiple actors.
