
(DLNR-AHS) — The CNMI Department of Land and Natural Resources-Animal Health Section has launched a dedicated Avian Influenza Response Hotline at (670) 483-6261. This hotline is strictly for reporting suspected cases of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in poultry and wild birds.
Why it matters
Avian influenza is a highly contagious disease that can spread rapidly, causing significant losses to poultry farms and threatening wild bird populations. Some strains can also affect other animals, including humans. Early detection is key to protecting flocks, food security, and public health.
Residents and poultry owners are urged to call the hotline if they observe:
• Sudden death in poultry or wild birds
Birds with the following symptoms:
○ Sudden death with no prior signs of illness
○ Swelling or discoloration of the head, neck, eyes, wattles, or comb
○ Respiratory signs, such as coughing, sneezing, runny nose, or difficulty breathing
○ Unusual behavior, including tremors, head/neck tilting, circling, inability to stand, or lack of coordination
○ Drop in egg production or soft-shelled/misshapen eggs
○ Loss of appetite or energy, ruffled feathers
○ Diarrhea
