A NEW play area costing more than £130,000 will soon open in Colden Common Park, Boyes Lane, after Colden Common Parish Council confirmed it had secured £80,000 of funding from Winchester City Council. The remaining £50,000 needed for the play area will come from the parish council's reserves. The council said the new play area will be "a brilliant addition to the fantastic facilities we have at Colden Common Park". The contract for the play area has been awarded to Kompan, which was chosen because of the "accessible features of the design, the quality and longevity of the equipment materials, play value, guarantee period, after-sales support and feedback from our consultation with residents on their favourite designs." The start date for the construction of the play area has not yet been confirmed but the council said it will keep residents updated.

COLDEN Common Music and Drama Group will be "All At Sea" in their next popular production at Colden Common Community Centre in June. As a seafaring nation, we should all feel at home with old favourites such as Red Sails in the Sunset, Sloop John B, Slow Boat to China, Bridge Over Troubled Water and many more. Landlubbers can get their sea legs ready and join in some of our best-loved national songs too, during a thoroughly salty evening. This showcase of songs with a nautical theme takes place on Friday, June 6, and Saturday, June 7, at 7.30pm. Tickets are £8 and available from the Box Office on 07702 522622 or at ccdmgtickets@hotmail.co.uk  Colden Common may be a distance from the sea, but the Fleet Will Be in Port Again in June. Don't miss the boat!

DON'T miss the series of splendid events taking place this spring at Twyford Community Centre. A spokesperson said: "We have a Jazz Session on the first Monday of the month, our popular Tea on Tuesdays for retirees, Art classes on Wednesdays, afternoon film on the first and third Thursdays of the month and evening films on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month. The last Thursday of the month has an afternoon French Conversation meeting and Fridays have a morning Singing Group, an afternoon Bridge Group and an evening Games Night, with snooker, table tennis, darts and lots of board games. Importantly many of these activities provide a lifeline for the elderly, infirm, bereaved and often housebound – a safe haven where they can meet, if only once or twice a week. There are also dance classes, chair yoga, Zumba and keep fit classes, run by different organisations."
