Dignity Health Woodland Clinic will be hosting its 4th annual free “Homegrown Health Event” for kids in the community on Saturday, April 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the clinic parking lot at 2081 Bronze Star Dr. in Woodland.

According to a press release, kids in attendance will be given their own free vegetable plant, provided by Dignity Health Woodland Clinic’s pediatric department, and learn about the joy of growing their own food. Dignity Health Woodland Clinic pediatricians and nutritionists will demonstrate how to make healthy nutrition choices.

“When kids are actively involved in growing their own fruits and vegetables, they’re much more likely to eat them,” said Samuel Siegel, MD, pediatrician with Dignity Health Woodland Clinic and event organizer. “This hands-on experience helps build a foundation of healthy eating habits early in life, empowering them to make better choices and reduce their risk of weight-related health issues.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 1-in-5 children in the United States are affected by childhood obesity. Many different factors can contribute to childhood obesity including access to nutritional foods. The link between learning to grow food and a decreased risk of childhood obesity is an increase in the consumption of fresh produce.

Pots and soil, donated by C.L. Smith Landscape Materials will be available for those who do not have a space at home to plant their vegetables. Get more event details on our Facebook Event Page: https://www.facebook.com/events/996420112096135/.
