James E. “Slogo” McCorkle Sr., age 72, of Paulding, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at his home.
He was born in Defiance, Ohio, on June 6, 1952, to the late William and Rosie (Damon) McCorkle.

James E. “Slogo” McCorkle Sr., age 72, of Paulding, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at his home.
He was born in Defiance, Ohio, on June 6, 1952, to the late William and Rosie (Damon) McCorkle.
James was a member of Defiance AmVets #1991, Eagles #372, Moose Lodge #2094, VFW #3360 and UAW #211. He worked at General Motors for 30 years until his retirement.
James was a former Police Officer for the Village of Holgate and Liberty Center. He was very proud of his large gun and knife collection, and he enjoyed motorcycles and long rides for benefits and poker runs.
James liked to keep to himself, play video games, and loved spending time with his canine companions “Brute” and “Nemo.” James will be sadly missed by his family and many good friends.
James is survived by his children, James “Jim” (Shawna) McCorkle Jr. of Napoleon, Catherine McCorkle of McClure, Jeremiah (Lori) McCorkle of Napoleon, Carrie Burger of Liberty Center, Nicholas McCorkle of Defiance, Nicole Sugars of Hicksville and Roger McCorkle of Napoleon. He also leaves behind 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; his brother, Danny McCorkle of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and his sister, Beverly Ryan of Defiance.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving companion of over 30 years, Linda Copeland; his infant brother, William McCorkle; and his beloved dogs, Brute and Nemo.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A Memorial Service will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 16 at the funeral home with Celebrant Deb Miller officiating.
Memorials are suggested to Schaffer Funeral Home to assist with expenses.
