Easter made easy with a gourmet touch from The Golden Hog

Easter Sunday (April 20) is around the corner and once again the team at The Golden Hog has prepared a holiday menu that puts the focus on family, not the kitchen.

This year’s Easter Menu features some of their most popular catering dishes, including a tender Lamb Rack with mint jelly and their signature slow-baked Bell & Evans organic turkey breast. Pasta lovers can enjoy Pear Gorgonzola Ravioli in a creamy black truffle sauce, and for something a bit more refined, duck confit is also available.
If your celebration leans more toward brunch, The Golden Hog has added a new Brunch Specialties section, with hearty options like beef, veggie or chicken lasagna, and the crowd-favorite Lobster Mac and Cheese. Their Chicken Milanesa, topped with pico de gallo, adds a savory twist to the offerings.

And of course, no Easter gathering is complete without dessert. The bakery is serving up a sweet lineup of family favorites, including a signature Carrot Bundt Cake with light frosting, Key Lime Pie and a decadent Dark Chocolate and Dulce de Leche tart.
The Golden Hog is located in the Harbor Plaza at 91 Harbor Dr. on Key Biscayne. You can order online at thegoldenhog.com or by calling the store at (305) 361-1300.
Former President of Colombia Uribe at D’Lite

It was not a normal Wednesday afternoon at D’Lite Bistro and Bakery, with excitement in the air as Álvaro Uribe, the former President of Colombia stopped by for a healthy bite and conversations – a sort of petit comité – with roughly 80 residents gathered around him in what Alessandra Zurek, owner of the popular health bistro, called a “clear and deep discussions on the realities of life in Colombia today.”

“Honestly, it was an exciting and meaningful experience,’ Zurek said. “Having someone so special to us Colombians, someone who has dedicated their life to fighting for the country, it was truly an honor.”
Uribe was the architect of the Plan Colombia and Zurek described the experience as an unique opportunity to learn first-hand Uribe's vision for Colombia and his commitment to its future.
And since this is a food column, what did President Uribe eat?

“He was fascinated by our natural juices, he especially liked our Addicted to You pink juice, made with dragon fruit, strawberry, mango, orange and pineapple and no sugar added,” said Zurek, adding that Uribe also tried “our Grilled Chorizo served with our own yogurt-based aioli, which he loved, and we also gave him one of our ginger shots to help him get over a cold.”
Of the entire experience, Zurek said she was “beyond words” adding that it was the first time since she opened D’Lite that they had hosted such an important figure for Colombians and someone we consider our forever president.
