Harry Potter character Pansy Parkinson appeared in seven of the eight popular wizarding movies but was played by a whopping four different actresses.

The Slytherin student bullied Hermione Granger, was Draco Malfoy's date to the Yule Ball and even turned Harry over to Lord Voldemort.

However for reasons unbeknown to most, the character was recast throughout the film, after going from minor character to a more integral part of the plot.

According to movie site CBR: 'Pansy Parkinson never had a big role in the Harry Potter books besides being a bully and one of Draco Malfoy's supporters.

'So it makes sense that in the movies, her role was reduced even more. For this reason, many Hogwarts students don't appear in the Harry Potter movies or are played by multiple actors until they play a bigger role in the movies.'

The schoolgirl was first played by Katherine Nicholson in the first two films - 2001's Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and 2022's Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

She was an uncredited extra in the role and only appeared in the background during Hogwarts school scenes.

It was Katherine's only on-screen role and she has since moved into music, but she did return to the wizarding world to work behind the scenes on 2016 spin-off film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Genevieve Gaunt was then drafted in as Pansy for an one-off appearance in 2004's Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

Her movie career has since gone from strength to strength and she has appeared in The Mercy with Colin Firth, Arthur's Whiskey with Diane Keaton and Damian Hurley's debut Strictly Confidential alongside his mum Elizabeth.

The Dutch-British actress also does many voiceovers and plays the iconic Lady Penelope in Thunderbirds audiobooks.

While Pansy didn't appear in the fourth movie, 2005's Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Lauren Shotton was then cast in the role.

It was demoted once again to a blink and you miss it cameo part in 2007's Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Despite not appearing much on screen she has continued acting in plays and works as a TV presenter, as well keeping Instagram followers up to date with her love of pole dancing.

The fourth and final actress to play Pansy was Scarlett Byrne, and she is arguably the most recognisable person to take on the role, which was a speaking part.

She appeared as the Slytherin schoolgirl in 2009's Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and the final movies Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 & 2.

Nabbing a rare line compared to her predecessors, she famously told Hogwarts students to capture Harry Potter during a face-off with Lord Voldemort in the final battle - ending up with her being sent to the dungeons.

The British actress has since moved to the United States where she starred in smash hit series The Vampire Diaries and Marvel The Runaways.

She is married to businessman Cooper Hefner, who is the son of late Playboy founder Hugh, and together they share three daughters - Betsy Rose, four, and twins Marigold Adele and Blossom Pearl, three.

Last year, Cooper, 33, had his offer rejected after he tried to acquire Playboy Enterprises for $100million.

Elsewhere, fellow Harry Potter star Evanna Lynch surprised fans as she made a return to social media by launching a new blog,  two years after shunning the spotlight following her defence of J.K. Rowling's trans views.

The actress, 33, who played Luna Lovegood in the Wizarding movie franchise, faced backlash after she become one of the film's few stars to support the author, going against the likes of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint.

Taking her tentative steps back into public life, Evanna revealed she'd been busy working on a novel and was keen to reconnect with fans after 'shutting out' the world.

Speaking about her absence she wrote: 'Basically, I took a long holiday from being myself. I just got sick of her... Last year I ran out of energy to keep up that persona and so 2024 brought about a big energetic shift'.

'I said no to pretty much every invite, job, campaign, etc (albeit a few appearance jobs, girl's gotta eat…), I stopped messaging everyone back, I dyed my hair black (I'm such a cliché, it kills me) and took a long, lovely extended break from me'.

The actress also shared details of her new boyfriend Den, who runs his own business, she penned: 'I live in London with my partner, Den, and our animals. Den is a gardener and I'm writing at the moment.'

Evanna previously had a secret nine-year relationship with her Harry Potter co-star Robbie Jarvis, who played a young version of Harry's dad, James Potter. They split in 2016, after which she had a brief romance with singer-songwriter AnDel in 2017.

She wrote: 'I am finally pushing myself out of the nice little comfort zone that I've been in for the past couple years,' Life offline has been so nice that I'm in danger of never coming back.'

'And letting the remnants of my online presence drift away like cobwebs. However, in the past few months, I've felt the itch to get out there and be part of things outside of my own realm again, so I've decided to lower my boundaries and let some more of the outside world in.'
