Some of the cases which appeared at Plymouth Magistrates' Court may have raised eyebrows during the week of hearings.

Despite the constant appearances of people who have chosen to go over the 20mph speed limit along Old Laira Road - where the average and static cameras have record for catching more people speeding than anywhere else in the whole of Devon and Cornwall - one person who perhaps should know better than anyone to keep a close eye on their speedometer along that road was an 80-year-old offender.

It transpired that the driver would have been well aware of the 20mph limit - as they actually resided at a property along Old Laira Road.

PlymouthLive have been reporting on the road and the limit since early 2022 as well as the many, many cases where people have been caught driving over the limit.

There's also the case of the shoplifter who clearly has a sweet tooth, having stolen hundreds of pounds worth of ice creams and confectionary and the burglar who targeted packages delivered to students in their accommodation block.
