FARGO (KFGO) – The Highway Patrol has released the names of the people involved in a south Fargo crash between a motorcycle and car Friday night, and Clay County Sheriff Mark Empting confirmed the motorcyclist is an employee of his department.
Avery Quiner, 20 of Moorhead, suffered serious injuries when his motorcycle crashed into a car at the intersection of 31st Street and 52nd Avenue S.
The Highway Patrol says Quiner was eastbound on 52nd Avenue and a car driven by 79-year-old Marcella Schnabel of Detroit Lakes was westbound, making a left turn onto 31st Street.
Quiner was thrown from the bike. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
Schnabel and a passenger suffered minor injuries. Another woman in the car was not hurt.
Investigators say the motorcycle was clocked at up to 140 miles per hour earlier in the evening. Officers did not start a pursuit due to safety concerns.
Empting said Quiner has been employed with his department off and on for about a year.
“As the Sheriff, I hold our entire office to the highest standards. I am aware that one of my
employees is pending criminal charges in North Dakota,” Empting said in a statement. “Although these are very serious, I am unable to comment until the court process has played out. Until then, I assure you that I take these matters seriously. We wish the employee a quick and speedy recovery.”
The crash is under investigation.
