The weather might not have been the kindest to its debut last year, but after people still managed to have a ball in some unwanted Bank Holiday rain, Gateshead Pride will be back for 2025. And its headline acts include a much loved drag performer currently on Celebrity Big Brother, a former X Factor star and a late 80s pop icon.
Officially known as Pride in Gateshead, the event's inaugural year saw it host festivities right across the Gateshead area, culminating in a big concert on the banks of the River Tyne in Baltic Square. Acts like You'll Never Stop Me From Lovin' You pop princess and UK Eurovision entrant Sonia and 90s dance act and Don't Give Me Your Life hitmakers entertained a captive audience, although as showers came down from the sky, the summer vibes everyone was hoping for didn't come to fruition.
Hopefully, the weather will behave itself this August, as Pride in Gateshead will return with a programme of events that will last a whole month and end in fine style with the Pride on the Tyne concert, in partnership with Lumo, on Saturday, August 30. And among the acts on stage will be a performer who is very much in the spotlight, former RuPaul's Drag Race UK champion Danny Beard, who is currently living in the Celebrity Big Brother house and is one of the favourites to win the new series.
A huge draw whenever he performs in the region, Danny will be joined on stage at Pride on the Tyne, hosted by Geordie drag royalty Ophelia B, by Betty Boo, the singer who made her chart debut well over 30 years ago, with singles including the insanely catchy Doing the Do and Where Are You Baby. Other acts set to entertain on the day include Lorraine Crosby, the North Tyneside singer, whose powerhouse vocals were heard the world over on Meatloaf's mega hit I'd Do Anything for Love; Jaymi Hensley who has performed across the globe and shot to TV fame as part of X Factor boyband Union J; an Olly Alexander tribute and drag trio Tipsy Divas.
Although the concert is free, numbers are limited so anyone interested in attending needs to register for a free ticket at www.outnortheast.org.uk

Peter Darrant, chair of Out North East is excited for Pride in Gateshead to return, commenting: "We have an incredible programme of events taking place in Gateshead during August and we are thrilled to once again be able to stage a fantastic free concert at Baltic Square.
“We are so grateful to Lumo for once again coming on board to partner with us and we hope their support will inspire another company to fill the last remaining space we have for a partner for the day. Their support – and that of our other sponsors – allows us to keep this event free and open to everyone.”
