Sentinel High School went into lockdown after a student reported a firearm on campus. Thanks to the quick action of the school resource officer and Missoula Police, the situation was swiftly handled, and two students were detained.
MISSOULA, Mont. – A report of a firearm on Sentinel High School grounds led to a swift response from the Missoula Police Department on Friday morning.
Just before 9:00 a.m., a student informed the school resource officer about another student possessing a firearm. The SRO quickly acted to locate those involved and called for backup, according to an MPD release.
Patrol officers and other SROs from the Missoula Police Department arrived promptly to assist in the investigation and ensure the safety of students and staff.
As a precaution, Sentinel High School was placed on lockdown. Two teen boys were detained, and a firearm was recovered. The lockdown has since been lifted.
The Missoula Police Department is working closely with Missoula County Public Schools during the ongoing investigation. There is currently no known threat to the public or other students.
Authorities commend the student who reported the firearm, the cooperation of school staff, and the rapid response by law enforcement. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
