NEWS FIVE LEADING THE WAY. WELL, A CLEVES MAN ACCUSED OF LEAVING HIS TWO YEAR OLD WITH SPECIAL NEEDS. HOME ALONE FOR HOURS. GOOD EVENING, AND THANKS FOR JOINING US HERE AT TEN. I’M CHRIS JACOBS. TONIGHT WE’RE LEARNING MORE ABOUT WHAT LED UP TO THE ARREST FROM THE SUSPECT’S OWN FATHER. HE SPOKE WITH RACHEL HIRSCHHEIMER IN AN INTERVIEW. YOU’LL ONLY SEE ON WLWT. RACHEL. YEAH. CHRIS. JOSHUA MYERS IS IN JAIL. HE’S FACING CHILD ENDANGERMENT CHARGES. AND TONIGHT I DID SPEAK WITH JOSHUA’S FATHER, WHO SAID HE WAS THE ONE THAT MADE THE VERY DIFFICULT DECISION TO CALL POLICE ON HIS OWN SON. IT’S HEARTBREAKING. IT’S THE HARDEST THING I EVER DID IN MY LIFE. BUT IT WAS THE RIGHT THING TO DO. AND JOSH KNOWS IT. APRIL 8TH BRUCE MYERS MADE THIS CALL TO 911 TO REPORT HIS SON. I DON’T KNOW IF IT’S BEEN REPORTED OR NOT, BUT THERE WAS A CHILD LEFT ALONE IN A HOUSE, AND I’M IN THE HOUSE NOW WITH THE CHILD. ACCORDING TO THE HAMILTON COUNTY PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE, JOSHUA MYERS LEFT HIS TWO YEAR OLD CHILD WITH SPECIAL NEEDS LOCKED IN A BEDROOM AT A HOME ON ZION HILL ROAD IN CLEVES FOR AT LEAST SEVEN HOURS WHILE HE WENT TO WORK. ARRIVING DEPUTIES SAID THE HOME WAS FILTHY AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS. SUBJECT WAS PREVIOUSLY FOUND NAKED, LOCKED IN THE BEDROOM BY A FRIEND. JOSHUA’S FATHER, BRUCE, SAYS HE TOLD HIS 35 YEAR OLD SON TO TURN HIMSELF IN. HE MADE A MISTAKE. WE ALL HAVE TO LIVE WITH IT NOW. TODAY, JOSHUA MYERS WAS INDICTED ON TWO COUNTS OF CHILD ENDANGERMENT. A NEIGHBOR IN THE AREA SAYS THIS COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED. IT’S PRETTY SAD, REALLY, WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT IT. AND STUFF LIKE THAT DEFINITELY DOESN’T HAPPEN AROUND HERE. BRUCE WANTS ANYONE IN NEED TO CALL FOR HELP. SO SOMETHING LIKE THIS DOESN’T HAPPEN AGAIN. NOT ALONE. YOU GOT TO REACH OUT, ASK THE PEOPLE THAT LOVE YOU. DON’T PUT IT OFF. NOW, IN A STATEMENT, THE HAMILTON COUNTY PROSECUTOR SAID THERE IS NEVER A REASON TO LEAVE A TWO YEAR OLD CHILD HOME ALONE. IT IS OUR JOB TO MAKE SURE THOSE WHO CANNOT SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES ARE PROTECTED. NOW, IF MERS IS CONVICTED ON ALL COUNTS IN THIS CASE, HE COULD FACE UP TO THREE AND A HALF YEARS IN PRISON. WE’RE LIVE TONIGHT OUTSIDE THE HAMILTON COUNTY JUSTICE CENTER.
