NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Spring is in full swing, and this week’s weather will be a showcase of everything the season has to offer—from early summer-like warmth to brisk, jacket-worthy chill and a few chances for rain in between.

Wednesday brought the heat, with temperatures soaring to the mid to upper 80s, possibly marking one of the warmest days of the year so far. It’ll feel more like late May or early June. Sunshine dominates, and it’s a great day to soak up the warmth—but keep in mind, high pollen counts, and UV levels will make it a day for allergy sufferers and sunburn-prone skin to take precautions. A slight chance of showers between midnight and 3am.

As quickly as warmth comes, Thursday starts to shake things up. The day begins mostly sunny and mild, but a cold front approaches from the west, while highs will still be near 66, it’ll feel more unsettled—like the atmosphere knows something’s about to change. Breezy, with a west wind 5 to 10 mph becoming north northeast 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph.

And it will. Friday brings a dramatic drop in temperatures, with highs only reaching the low 50s under mostly cloudy skies. The day may start with a few lingering showers, but the bigger story will be how quickly it feels like we’ve jumped back to late March. Jackets and warm drinks make a comeback. A chance of rain/snow showers in the morning mainly before 7am. Wind gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

The weekend starts on a brighter note. Saturday will be cool but partly cloudy skies, with highs in the upper 50s—a great day for spring cleanups or a light hike. Then Sunday bringing mostly sunny skies and highs near 63.

Looking ahead to Monday, we’re back to sunshine and highs near 75°F a fitting start to a new week and a more typical late-April pattern. Tuesday mostly sunny skies highs near 74 and a chance of showers at night. Next Wednesday partly cloudy skies and highs near 68.

This week’s weather is a perfect example of spring’s unpredictability. We’ll go from jackets to short sleeves and back again, with a little rain, a lot of sun, and a few windy moments in between. Keep layers close, check the daily forecast, and enjoy the ride after all, this is spring in action.
