CHURCH NOTES

All Saints Orthodox Church: 211 Willow Ave., Olyphant, offers a frozen pierogi sale from 9 to 11 a.m. every Friday and 10:30 a.m. to noon every Sunday in the church basement.

Christ Episcopal Church: 700 Delaware St., Forest City, will hold its annual Lenten pizza, soup, Welsh cookies and cabbage noodles sale from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Fridays through April 18. Sale includes take-and-bake 12 slices of red pizza for $14; pagash (potato, cheese) for $16; assorted homemade soups for $5; cabbage and noodles for $6; and Welsh cookies for $7 per dozen. Sacred Heart of Jesus Church: hosts a food giveaway from 1 to 2 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month. Giveaways are sponsored by Friends of the Poor and take place in the attached Holy Family Hall, 1101 Willow St., Peckville.

SS. Cyril & Methodius Church: will hold a Mother’s Day flower fundraiser. Ten-inch hanging baskets in a variety of colors and blooms will be sold for $20. Jermyn Townwide Clean Up Month: Jermyn Shade Tree Commission is kicking off Earth Day, April 22, and National Arbor Day, April 25, with the Townwide Clean Up Month from April 21-May 23. In observance, volunteers will be cleaning the WWI Veterans Park and planting the Main Street flowerpots and bridges, the Callahan Recreational Park and Memorial Garden. Jermyn residents are asked to clean their particular section of street, curb and sidewalks of the winter’s dirt, rocks and recyclables. The goal is to have clean streets and curbs for the summer months, especially for the upcoming May Memorial Weekend and summer activities. Residents should bag winter refuse and place at curb no more than 24 hours prior to their regularly scheduled trash and recyclable containers pickup. Baba’s Flea Market donations: “Babas” of St. John’s Russian Orthodox Cathedral, Mayfield, are planning their annual Baba’s Flea Market for October. They will be accepting used but not abused items, including small appliances that work, jewelry, collectibles, purses, knick-knacks and toys in good condition. No clothing will be accepted. Pioneer City Market: is a year-round farmers market in downtown Carbondale. The market is open every Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. at 58 River St. (Trinity Episcopal Church). Plant sale/exchange and marketplace seeks vendors: Mountain View Garden Club’s Plant Sale/Exchange & Marketplace will be June 1 at the Clifford Community Center. Marketplace will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. featuring local artisans, businesses and churches. Space is available in the park for vendors. Cost for a space is $20; vendors must provide their own tent and tables. Plant sale/exchange will be from 2 to 4 p.m., featuring locally grown perennials. Attendees may also bring two perennials from their own gardens to exchange for two plants of the same size or value. Event will include Second Hand Rose flea market. St. Joseph’s Center sidewalk sale: Is seeking donations. Accepting small furniture and new or gently used housewares, jewelry, home accents/decor, purses, lamps, holiday decorations, tools, toys, books and DVDs. No clothes or large furniture. Donations will be accepted every Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon, through April 26 at the DeNaples Building, 320 Blakely St., Dunmore, on the Pine Street side. Third Thursdays in the Queen City: Olyphant Borough gears up with retail stores, restaurants and outdoor vendors on Lackawanna Avenue to offer something for everyone every third Thursday of the month from 5 to 8 p.m. Walk and shop the stores from the bridge to the Queen City train station.

United Neighborhood Centers of NEPA’s Carbondale Farmers Market: is open every Thursday from 2 to 5 p.m. at UNC’s Fallbrook Senior Community Center, 185 Fallbrook St., Carbondale.
