Aldi set to open 14 new stores in one state while other supermarkets close down
The chain, along with its former sister store Trader Joe’s, is focused on expansion during a retail bloodbath, when many stores are closing their doors
Floridians looking for a cheaper option for their groceries are in luck. Discount grocer Aldi is set to open 14 new locations in the state, some already open and others welcoming shoppers as soon as next week.
The chain, along with its former sister store Trader Joe’s, is focused on expansion during a retail bloodbath, when many stores are closing their doors.
Aldi, in particular, has aggressive plans to expand its footprint in the United States. It has announced that it wants to open 225 stores before the end of the year.
The company appears to be on track to reach its goal of 800 new locations total by the end of 2028.
Now, it has announced that it will open 36 new stores in the coming weeks in 14 states and Washington, D.C.
Of those stores, the most significant number are coming to the Sunshine State, giving them a more prominent presence.
Once all the openings are completed, the chain will officially operate 243 locations across the state, with the largest concentration in Orlando.
The company's large expansion in the Southeast has been aided by its acquisition of Southeastern Grocers, the parent company behind Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarkets. Several locations have been opened in converted stores.
The chain appears ready to offer shoppers at its new locations access to its everyday in-house brands and a variety of low-priced household groceries and items.
We’re thrilled to open our doors and offer your community a new grocery store focused on quality and savings,” the website reads.
“Shoppers will discover everyday low prices on groceries and household essentials, including fresh produce, organic foods, fresh meat and seafood, and ALDI-exclusive brands that match the quality of national name brands at a fraction of the price.”
Overall, the locations opening are in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Jersey, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Washington D.C..
