Five bills introduced by Assemblymember Damon Connolly have advanced to the Appropriations Committee after approval by policy committees.

Transportation Committee members unanimously supported Assembly Bill 1151, which is based on an idea that won Connolly’s annual “there ought to be a law” contest for District 12 residents. The proposal, submitted by a San Anselmo resident, calls for the state to issue photo identification cards to seniors after they give up their driver’s licenses.

The Natural Resources Committee approved AB 674, which seeks to assist low-income consumers who want to replace high-polluting vehicles with cleaner ones. The committee also passed AB 846, which is intended to streamline wildfire preparedness.

The Health Committee passed AB 384, which seeks to prohibit health insurance companies from requiring prior authorization on emergency treatment for customers suffering mental health and substance abuse crises.

The Governmental Organization Committee approved AB 1177, which seeks to improve staffing for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

The bills could head to a floor vote this summer.

Connolly, a Democrat who lives in San Rafael, represents Marin County and part of Sonoma County.
