Family identifies woman killed in Cottage Grove crash

The family of a woman who died in a vehicle versus pedestrian crash in Cottage Grove identified her on Tuesday afternoon.

VILLAGE OF COTTAGE GROVE, Wis. (WMTV) - The family of a woman who died after being hit by a vehicle in Cottage Grove identified her on Tuesday afternoon.

Dr. Kami Hansen, a Cottage Grove chiropractor, was walking her dog with her son when a car went off the road and hit them.

Dr. Hansen, her son and the driver were rushed to the hospital. She died from her injuries at the hospital. The family dog was killed.

Dr. Hansen was a mom to three boys, a wife, a friend and a chiropractor. She opened Heartland Family Chiropractic several years ago. Her team confirmed her passing on Facebook Tuesday morning.

15 News talked with some of her patients off camera who described her as personable and a bright light. Dr. Hansen was voted Best Chiropractor of The Year in Cottage Grove six times.

She is originally from New Lisbon and studied at UW La Crosse, then at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. Dr. Hansen was also a board member for the Chamber of Commerce of Cottage Grove and the Optimist Club of Cottage Grove.

15 News talked with Dr. Hansen’s husband who said their son is in the hospital and will have surgery Tuesday night.

The driver of the car is also in the hospital. Police say that individual is cooperating with the investigation.

Campfire to remember Dr. Hansen

Abiding Shepherd Lutheran Church hosted a campfire Tuesday night to remember the beloved doctor. WMTV respected the wishes of the community and did not capture footage of the actual event.

The Cottage Grove community gathered to remember Dr. Kami Tuesday after she was killed in a crash Monday night.
