The incident happened on April 3, 2024, when Ramirez, who rented a room in a shared central Bakersfield apartment, entered his roommate's bedroom while she was in the shower.

The victim, suspecting Ramirez of previous thefts, had left her cellphone in the bedroom to record. The footage captured Ramirez entering the room, leaving briefly, and then returning with the victim's wallet in hand before locking the door as he exited.

When she returned to her bedroom, the victim recounted her money and discovered some missing cash. After reviewing the video evidence, she contacted the police. A search of Ramirez's room revealed not only the missing cash but also articles of the victim's underwear hidden under Ramirez's pillow.

Ramirez was credited with 81 days, including 41 for good behavior, court records show. He initially faced up to six years in prison.
