One of the leading names in electronics, Foxconn, has announced an MoU with Mitsubishi to build electric vehicles. Foxconn has shown off several models over the years and has expressed its interest in entering the global EV space that can be customised and sold by automobile companies under their own badges. Now, with Mitsubishi, the company is finalising on deals.
The first car will be sold in Australia and New Zealand, likely to make a debut late next year. These cars will be made by Foxconn using its own technology with the help of its subsidiary. Foxtron will provide the design services, while Yulon Motor in Taiwan will build the cars. Foxtron is a JV Foxconn and Yulon.
The company has not revealed details as to what kind of vehicle the car will be, but going by an official statement, the car will have a capable infotainment system and excellent driving performance. There are no details as to what other features the car will have or anything about its powertrain.
So far, Foxconn has been in the news for showing interest in partnering with Nissan when the Honda deal went sour. There have even been rumours that the Taiwanese company could potentially buy Nissan. The sign of tech giants entering the automotive space is interesting and as days pass, we will get more details on the cars Foxconn is building.
