A young couple has impressively turned the 'worst house on the street' into a chic, modern abode, boosting its value by a staggering £290,000.
Kelsey, 19, and Brad, 21, embarked on their property journey at the tender ages of 18 and 20, snapping up a three-bedroom semi in South Yorkshire. Despite its initial 'unliveable' state, the ambitious first-time buyers recognised the potential and secured the house for £135,000 in December 2023.
With a helping hand from relatives, the pair dedicated seven months to overhauling the house, stripping walls to the brick, constructing an extension, and revamping the neglected garden. By May 2025, after residing in their revamped home for eight months, Kelsey and Brad have successfully sold their inaugural property for £425,000.
Their renovation exploits have captured the attention of social media users, with the couple racking up an impressive 113,400 followers and receiving 5.6 million likes on TikTok, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Kelsey said, "We've always wanted to get on the property ladder young. We were living at home between our parents' houses whilst we were saving to buy. We stumbled across this house on Rightmove. When we first viewed it it was unliveable, it hadn't been lived in for years. It was the worst house on the street.
"There was mould all on the walls, the gardens hadn't been maintained and the back garden was like a forest. But it just had so much potential. It sits on a quarter of an acre of the land so we knew we could make it a lot bigger than what it was."
Kelsey added: "It was also in a really nice spot at the corner of the road and it's south facing. We just knew we could do a lot with it."
After viewing the house, the couple put in an offer but it wasn't accepted. It was then snapped up by another buyer. But to their delight, the other offer fell through and they were told it was back on the market.
The couple bought the house for £135,000 in December 2023 and began planning what work needed to be done. The plans for their extension were approved in late February which was when the renovation began.

"We were a bit stressed about the amount of work there was to do, but we did have a lot of help," said Brad. "I work in the industry so I had my own knowledge, and my family are property developers so they gave us a lot of help and advice."
The property was taken back to brick before the double storey extension began in March. "When we first viewed it, we knew we needed a much bigger kitchen living space. We've more than doubled the size of the house with the extension," Brad explained.
"The biggest jobs aside from the extension itself were taking all the walls back to brick because they were all damp and mouldy. We also took ceilings out which was a difficult job. Brad added: "We took down the wall separating the kitchen and dining room, added in a new staircase as the original ones were really steep and fully rewired the house and added gas central heating.
"The master bedroom, en suite and main bathroom are all new rooms as part of the new extension."

After the renovation work was completed in August, it was then down to Kelsey for the interior design.
"It was really hard deciding everything and choosing interiors that we both liked," she said. "We just always wanted everything to be quite light and bright in terms of colours. I looked to Pinterest for a lot of inspiration.
"There weren't really any home Instagram accounts that we followed along for a long period of time. I don't know whether we've just not found them yet, but I don't think there are many home accounts that are quite to our style."
Now complete, the house now has a large open-plan kitchen dining area, a utility room, garage, downstairs toilet and separate front lounge on the ground floor. Upstairs there are now four bedrooms, including the main bedroom with an en-suite, a main bathroom and a dressing room.

Outside, the gardens have been fully landscaped and also include an outbuilding with its own toilet. Having just completed the refurbishment of their initial residence, the pair have taken the leap and purchased a second home, which was an unexpected move.
"It's all finished now, and we've actually just sold it. We've only been in since August but we'll be moving now," Brad disclosed.
"That wasn't the plan, we thought we would be here for a lot longer," Kelsey chimed in. "If we knew we weren't staying then we wouldn't have overspent on it or done a lot of what we've done interior wise. "We've had real wood floors put down and built-in speakers. We wouldn't have gone to that extent if we would have thought we were moving.
"We weren't really looking to move, but the new house is detached and it's just got similar potential to this really."
The couple placed their property on the market for £399,950 and were astonished by the number of offers exceeding their listing price. "When we put the house up for sale a couple of weeks ago, by the end of day we had about 20 viewings for the following day, and then we had about another 10 the day after that," Brad recounted.

"From that we had about six or seven offers. We had to cancel the rest of the viewings and even when we took it off the market, there were people coming to the house knocking at the door asking to look around. After finalising the sale for £425,000, Brad expressed: "It's a nice feeling to know we've added a lot of value to the house. " The couple have been documenting their renovation journey on social media and intend to do the same with their second property.
Kelsey added: "Our TikTok account grew quite rapidly. I've never engaged in social media before, it's entirely new to me. I certainly want to expand our accounts further, particularly Instagram. Obviously we've got the new house now so I'll be showcasing the entire process of that from start to finish.

""The new house requires a full renovation again, there's a similar amount of work to do as this one if not slightly more. ""It's not in as poor condition as this one was, it was constructed in the 1960s, and it hasn't really been updated since then so again it's really outdated for our taste."
Brad added: "The new house will be ready in about six weeks and then we're moving back in with our parents whilst we carry out the renovation. We're aiming to complete it in about six or seven months hopefully if the planning and everything goes smoothly, otherwise a bit longer."
