OAK LAWN, IL — Over 75 entries will be thrilling the throngs lining the curb when the Oak Lawn Independence Day Parade steps off this Saturday, June 28, down 95th Street, presented by the Oak Lawn Arts and Events Commission.
The Oak Lawn Independence Day Parade steps off at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 28. The parade begins at 95th Street and 49th Avenue, proceeding westbound to 95th Street and 55th Court. The street will be closed to traffic on 95th Street from Cicero to Central Avenue from 2 to 6 p.m.
Floats, decorated vehicles, walkers, bikes, high school marching bands, youth sports teams, scout troops, businesses, veteran groups, mascots, Those Funny Little People, Shriners and more will be cavorting for the hundreds of people who line the parade route along 95th Street.
Immediately following the parade, head over to Oak Lawn Village Green for a free concert starting at 6 p.m. The evening will feature Charles and Company, seasoned musicians who will energize the crowd with a great mix of music to keep the festivities going.
Concert-goers can also enjoy a variety of family-friendly activities, including bounce houses, face painting, balloon artists and Paisan’s Pizza for purchase.
Oak Lawn Mayor Terry Vorderer encourages all residents to take part in the festivities.
“The 4th of July parade is a cherished tradition that brings our community together in celebration of independence, unity, and pride,” the mayor said. “I invite all residents to join us in honoring this special day and making cherished memories with friends and family.”
On the Fourth of July, which falls on a Friday this year, the Oak Lawn Park District will be blasting off fireworks at Richards High School, 106th Street and Central Avenue. The ‘works blast off at dusk.
