In 2017, total production of wheat in the Kyrgyz Republic was 601,000 MT, 9% lower than in 2016. Domestic production of wheat is enough to meet only 48% of internal consumption. For fulfilling its domestic consumption, the country relies on import of the wheat products from neighbouring countries, such as Kazakhstan and Russian Federation.

Remittances play a very important role in the economy of the Kyrgyz Republic with the 36% in GDP. In 2017, the annual volume of remittances reached a record high of USD 2,031 mln. However, between January and February, the aggregate volume of remittances was 20% higher than the same period in 2017.

The minimum living cost per person per month, a social indicator for assessing the living standards of the population, reached KGS 4,901 in 2017, 3% higher than 2016. Monthly wage sreached KGS 15,391 per person.

Wheat flour prices remained stable in all markets around the country on a month-on-month basis during the first quarter of 2018. Consumer prices fell in May after falling in the previous semester. Apples and fuel diesel are currently the only commodities with abnormally high prices in the market.
