A special football symposium will explore how the game is linked with the key global debates of our times.

The event - called Soccerama/FROM OUTSIDE THE BOX - will take place at Liverpool 's Central Library at 7pm on Friday, July 13 and it will feature guests from across the world of football, media and academia.

The esteemed panelists will explore the game's relationship with difference and its power for social change, focusing on women's rights, class politics, race, LGBTQ, nationalist populism and consumer culture.

Stephanie Power, reporter and producer at BBC Radio 4, will chair the event and the panel includes ex-Everton and Wales goalie Neville Southall.

Also taking part in the debate are Emy Onuora who is the author of Pitch Black, Melissa Reddy who is a senior football correspondent at Joe, Paul Manning from City of Liverpool FC, screenwriter Shaun Duggan, Jacqui McAssey from GirlFans and Dave Kelly from Fans Supporting Foodbanks .
